How Kept picks
It looks at seven things: the person, how you know them, the occasion, what they like and don't like, what you've given before, your budget, and how long shipping takes. Every pick tells you why it fits.
Friends, cousins, aunts and uncles, coworkers: people you want to remember but don't see every day. Most people pick gifts for a partner, parents, kids or siblings themselves, but you can add anyone.
Yes. Kept remembers every note you add, every gift you approve or skip, and whether they liked what they got. The more you use it, the better it picks for that person.
Tap Find another, in your account or in the email, and Kept looks again. If you don't want to send anything this time, tap Skip.
Independent shops and small brands. No shop pays to be picked. That also means no big-brand electronics like an iPhone.
Kept doesn't show product photos. Instead, each pick tells you what the gift is and why it fits the person. Want to see it? Every pick links to the shop's own page for it.
Money and control
You can. Kept always tells you the shop. But when you approve through Kept, you also get this. Approve by the date Kept gives you, and if it arrives late, your next month of Kept is free. If it arrives broken, wrong or never comes, Kept sends a new one or gives you all your money back, and deals with the shop. Your card and email stay with Kept, so you don't make an account at the shop or get its emails. If they don't like it, mark it “Not a fit” and get what you paid back as Kept credit (once a year). And if shipping or tax costs more than Kept said, Kept pays the difference.
Yes, for each person. The budget covers everything: the gift, shipping, tax and Kept's fee. Sometimes Kept shows a great gift that costs a little more. It always says how much more, and never approves one of those on its own.
Yes. Every gift idea shows up in your email and your account first, and nothing is bought without your yes. Kept never buys a gift on its own.
There are two parts. The membership is $4 a month for each person you add: 1 person $4, 2 people $8, 3 people $12. With 4 or more people, it's $14.99 a month in total, no matter how many. Then each gift is charged on its own, only when you approve it, at the price you saw.
Canadian dollars if you live in Canada, US dollars if you live in the US. The membership numbers are the same in both. Kept's fee on each gift is 3% + $1 in Canada and 6% + $1 in the US. You pick on the Billing page before your membership starts.
Yes. For 3 hours after you approve, tap Cancel in the email or on the person's page, and you get all your money back. After that, the shop may already have the order. You can still ask, and Kept will try, but it can't promise.
If Kept hasn't bought a gift you paid for within 3 days, you get your money back without asking. If it arrived and just wasn't a good fit, mark it “Not a fit” in your account and you get what you paid back as Kept credit (once a year).
Cards, treats and other add-ons
Yes, unless you turn it off. On gifts with a budget of $75 or more ($105 in Canadian dollars), Kept adds a card and one more small thing that suits them, like coffee or a sweet treat. You can turn add-ons off, or pick which kinds, for everyone in Settings or for one person on their page.
Usually they come out of the gift budget, so the total stays within it. You can give add-ons their own budget instead, in Settings or on the person's page. Each add-on shows its own price, and you can take any of them off before you approve.
Before Kept adds any food, it asks what that person can't or won't eat, and leaves out anything that doesn't fit. Kept reads product names and descriptions, not ingredient labels, so for a serious allergy it's safest to turn food add-ons off. In hot months, Kept also leaves out chocolate and other things that could melt.
Not always. An add-on can come from a different shop, so it may arrive in its own box with its own tracking. Kept plans for the slowest one, so everything arrives before the day.
It's left off, and you get its price back the way you paid: to your card, or as Kept credit. The rest of the gift still goes out, and Kept tells you what happened.
Delivery
Kept orders each gift within 48 hours of your yes. It ships in the shop's own box, and you get the tracking as soon as it ships. Gifts ship to you first, so you can hand them over. You can switch to shipping straight to the person in Settings.
Each gift idea tells you the last day to approve it so it arrives on time. If you approve by then and it still arrives late, your next month of Kept is free. If time is getting short, Kept tells you early.
Not yet. Kept only ships to the United States and Canada, for both you and the people you send gifts to. It doesn't ship to Quebec yet.
